Session format and methodology

Our Open League sessions are all about getting the kids to simply play, get touches on the ball, and have fun! Players will be split into teams of 4 and will rotate through multiple short games (usually around 5 minutes in length), facing different opponents each time. The focus is on maximizing touches and encouraging lots of free play – the main goal is to ensure all players can enjoy themselves while improving their skills against a wide variety of opponents.

Please note that the base game format will be 4v4, but may change week-to-week to accommodate the number of players registered or in attendance. Teams will be formed at the field as players arrive, and players will be grouped appropriately by age, gender, and experience. Matches will last 5-10 minutes before players rotate to face new opponents.

Sessions are overseen by Ottawa TFC senior youth players, who act as "Game Leaders" and ensure that maximum time is spent playing. These "Game Leaders" are trained through Canada Soccer, and guided/supervised by our academy staff coaches. If you are interested in helping as a "Game Leader", click here to visit our Careers & Coaching page.
