VOLUNTEERING

Coaching is not the only way to volunteer! You can also contribute to your community by helping the club as a board member, official, administrator, team manager, event staff member, and more.

Without volunteers, our club would not exist as we know it – they are crucial to the experience of our members and maintaining participation from year-to-year. To fulfil this need, most registrations include a mandatory $55 non-volunteer fee for each family, per season. This fee will be credited to the accounts of those who volunteer with the club in an "eligible activity" (click the red button to learn more).

See below to learn more on the importance of volunteers, and on how you can contribute!

ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES

  • The importance of volunteers

    Collapse
    Expand

Volunteers fulfill a wide range of services and responsibilities at all levels of any sport organization. These individuals, working in the trenches of sport, come into contact with and collectively have a profound effect on the experience of thousands of young athletes and their parents. It is their efforts that influence the decisions to begin and maintain involvement in sport. While team officials, coaches, assistant coaches and managers make an immeasurable contribution to the success of the club (and team), there are many other volunteers who contribute to each successful season.

Volunteers are the nuts and bolts needed to operate our Club and continue offering a superior quality program at reasonable fees. Approximately 850 volunteers a year are required to run our club. We encourage members to step forward and help in one of the many different volunteer opportunities offered.

  • How to sign up

    Collapse
    Expand

Each family interested in volunteering, will need to fill in a Volunteer Application. This can either be done when they register their YOUTH child for summer soccer (by ticking “yes” to the volunteering question) OR by going to the Volunteer Now! section of their PowerUp account.

The volunteer application form has a list of volunteer activities that are eligible for a reimbursement of the $55 non-volunteer fee. Since this is a FAMILY fee, as long as the volunteer is a responsible person 14 years of age or older, the family can decide among themselves who will complete the volunteer activity.

Go to the Eligible Volunteer Activities Chart to view a description of the eligible activities and completion timelines.

  • How will I be contacted?

    Collapse
    Expand

Our volunteer tracking system will allow us to track all volunteer involvement on a family basis. While we will make every effort to assign volunteers to their priority choice, we cannot, however, guarantee the availability of the chosen volunteer role. Since some activities only need a few volunteers, the more activities that you select in your application the greater your chance is of being contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator when eligible activities become available.

A general email with a sign up for will go out to all members who have filled in the Volunteer Application in PowerUp - first come, first served basis. The form will request the member to fill in their information and choose which task they would like to volunteer for depending on the event.

Members should make sure the email preferences in their PowerUp account is set to accept emails from volunteers@ottawatfc.com or register@ottawatfc.com.

  • Once you have volunteered

    Collapse
    Expand

Families who volunteer and complete their "eligible volunteer activity" will have their non-volunteer fee of $55 credited to their account at the end of the season.

Families who are not able to volunteer or choose not to volunteer will still pay the mandatory $55 non-volunteer fee. In these situations, the Ottawa TFC will keep the $55 per family non-volunteer fee in lieu of the member participating in some capacity as a Club volunteer. The non-volunteer fees collected will be allocated according to the list shown in the next section.

  • Allocating funds from the non-volunteer fee

    Collapse
    Expand

The Ottawa TFC would prefer not to increase its net operational income from this fee. However, because many families choose not to volunteer and there are fewer opportunities to volunteer than families registered in the club, an increase in net operational income is anticipated.

Should this happen, we are committed to allocating these funds in a manner that will benefit the community or the entire membership in the following priority:

    1. Supplying financial aid for soccer registration fees and uniform expenses to those Orleans families in need, and that might otherwise be unable to play soccer.

    2. Funding coaching and players clinics.

    3. Hiring additional resource support staff to assist in areas where there are not enough volunteers.

    4. Any further excess net operational revenue arising from the volunteer fee will be allocated to a Board-approved fund for future development of Ottawa TFC.

COACH DEVELOPMENT

COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Ottawa TFC Coach Development Program (CDP) is a continuing education program for all Ottawa TFC coaches. Two to three coaching clinics are conducted each month on various topics both in class and on field. Coaches at Ottawa TFC are required to attend a certain number of CDP sessions each season. The minimum number of sessions is determined by the level at which the coach is involved.

Since 2019, the CDP program has been split into two streams:

  1. Grassroots (for those coaching U12 and younger, or recreational soccer)

  2. Academy (more advanced for those coaching at the higher levels in the club).

For required credits for each level, see our Coach Certification Requirements.

For questions or enrollment in the CDP, please reach out to Raz El-Asmar.

The program is organized and coordinated through a coach's TeamSnap account.

SELF-ASSESSMENT AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

The mentorship program pairs coaches up with staff coaches at the club, and works from a self-assessment and action plan process, through on and off-field mentorship, concluding back with a re-assessment or debrief.

This is required for all Academy coaches, and it is available to all coaches (pending approval/acceptance by your mentor coach).

Reach out to Raz El-Asmar should you have any questions regarding the mentorship program.

LTPD COACHING COURSES

Please note that Ottawa TFC will only pay for the required levels of coach licensing for coaches who have committed to the club. Any additional licensing must be covered by the individual. The licensing stays with the coach and forms a part of the coach's education.

Canada Soccer' coaching courses will give you the confidence to succeed as you enter the ranks of certified coaches in Ontario. Each level features education on age-appropriate coaching for each level of play. Registration for all coaching courses is done online through Coach Centre.
