Ottawa TFC Pre-Season Training Programs

Stay mentally and physically fit during lock-down

The below pre-season training programs include both indoor and outdoor training components that touch on all 4 corners of player development Social/Mental, Physical, Technical and Tactical.  Specifically designed for the April-May lock-down, the program is designed to both keep players active and mentally fit during the lock down, and to help prepare them for the upcoming outdoor season that is just around the corner. 

The offered programs are listed below, with each program tailored for the age group with challenging and relevant exercises and instructors who have experience working with those ages.  

 

2021 Pre-Season Programs (April-May lockdown)


U5-U8 Pre-Season Challenge

The Pre-Season Challenge is a grassroots version of our highly successfull "Lifestyle challenge" that is used in our provincially acclaimed Elite Academy at the older ages.  Each week, players will complete two online training sessions led by our Academy instructors, as well as various indoor/outdoor challenges assigned each week. 

Challenges are submitted by players and regularly assessed by the coach, with top submissions and performances highlighted each week.  The challenge is structured as a friendly competition, with players working to achieve levels and awards by completing workouts and challenges and submitting them.  

At these young ages, players should have a parent or sibling that is willing to actively support them during the challenge, in order to get the most out of it. 

Soccer Age

All U5-U8 players (Born in: 2013 - 2016)

Locations

In your house, backyard and community!  

All Sessions are run online via zoom and challenges can be completed in the basement, backyard, or local park. 

What you need for the Challenge:

All challenges, submissions, points, and interactions with coaches are managed via Google Classroom.  

As such, you will need access to a google account.  If you need to setup a free google account, you can do that by clicking here.

For most challenges you will also need access to a camera or phone. 

You will also need the below setup to participate in weekly virtual training sessions led by our coaches online. 

Setup for Virtual Training: 

  • 3 x 3 meters of space marked out by 4 markers: cones, shoes, socks or whatever 4 markers you have.
  • A phone, tablet or laptop through which you will login into the virtual session
    • Your device must have a working camera so that the coach can see what you’re doing. 
    • You will need the zoom application installed on the device you are using before starting the session.
  • A ball
  • Water
  • A workout matt, if the floor you’re working on is not good for strength work like abs/plank, etc. 
  • Your setup should look something like the picture below, with your camera showing the coach exactly what the picture below shows:

U9-U18 Rec Soccer Challenge

Program Details

This program is an introductory version of our highly successfull "Lifestyle challenge", used across our club to help keep kids active, healthy and developing while we are at home in lock down.  Each week, players will complete two online training sessions (30 mins) led by our Academy instructors, as well as various challenges assigned to the players each week.  Weekly challenges are assessed by the coach, with top submissions and performances highlighted each week, and feedback given to players.  The challenge is structured as a friendly competition, where players work to achieve levels and awards by completing workouts and challenges and submitting them.

U13-U18 Pre-Season Challenge

This program is modeled after our highly successfull "Lifestyle challenge" that is used in our provincially acclaimed Elite Academy program.  Each week, players must complete both online training sessions with our coaches, as well as various challenges assigned to them each week.  Challenges range broadly, but are designed to highlight the life style habits required of competitive athletes and rising leaders.  These include athletic habits like stretching, warm-up routines, extra technical work, extra training, and injury management, as well as balanced lifestyle habits like being a good family member, student, teammate/friend and community member. 

The challenge is structured as a friendly competition, where players work to achieve levels and awards by completing workouts and challenges and submitting them.
